About NYC Starter
NYC Starter started as a student's own list of scholarships and programs that did not shut the door on non-citizens. We check each one on its official page and write down, in plain words, who can apply. It is a small project, kept free, and it gets better every time a student or a counselor tells us what is missing.
How it works
Pick who you are
Choose "Non-U.S. citizen" or "International (F‑1) students" and only the opportunities open to you stay on screen.
Save what fits
Tap the star. Your list shows every deadline in one place and marks what you have already applied to.
Get reminded
One weekly email, plus a nudge 14, 3 and 1 days before each deadline you saved. Unsubscribe in one click.
For colleges & partners
A free, verified list of scholarships, transfer programs, internships and events that immigrant and international students can actually apply to. Built in New York, shared with any campus that wants it.
What it is
A public website and a weekly email. Each listing is checked on the organizer's official page, shows the date it was verified, states the eligibility by immigration status in plain words, and links only to the official application. Nothing is sold, no application fees, no data brokers.
Who it serves
- International students (F‑1 / J‑1)
- Students who are not U.S. citizens, whatever their situation
- Community college students planning a transfer
- Advisors and counselors who answer "can I apply to this?" every day
The site never asks for documents or proof of status. The filter is a choice students control, in English, French and Spanish.
Privacy by design
Browsing is anonymous. Reminders need only a name and an email, with explicit consent and one-click unsubscribe. Data lives in a U.S. database with access rules, is never shared, and can be deleted by the student with one button.
How a campus can share it
Link it where students look
Add nycstarter.com to your international office, financial aid and transfer pages. Students need no account to browse.
Put it in a newsletter or a class
A two-line blurb in a student newsletter, an orientation slide, or a five-minute demo in a first-year seminar. Use your own campus link so you can see how many students used it.
Send us what we are missing
Running a scholarship, program or event open to non-citizens? Email the official page and we verify and list it, usually within a week.
